課程概述 |
電磁學上
This one-year (two semesters) course deals with the fundamentals of classical electricity
and magnetism.
Topics to be covered in the first semester: (basically following the textbook, but not necessarily in this order)
1. Elements of vector analysis
Vector differential calculus; vector integral calculus; curvilinear coordinates; Dirac delta function, Helmholtz theorem.
2. Electrostatics
Principle of linear superposition; Coulomb’s law; static electric field; Gauss’s law; electric potential; Poisson’s equation and Laplace’s equation; work and energy in electrostatics; conductors and capacitors
3. Laplace’s equation and electric potential
Uniqueness of solution; method of images; separation of variables;
using complex variables; multipole expansion; averaging property of the Laplacian, and numerical solution.
4. Electric Fields in Matter
Polarization; D-field and boundary conditions; Energy.
5. Magnetostatics
Lorentz force law; Biot-Savart law; Ampere’s law; Magnetic vector potential
6. Magnetic Fields in Matter
Torque and force on a magnetic dipole; Magnetization; H-field and boundary conditions. |
